Description
1978 Tayana 37 – HONU
Description
Introducing HONU, a beautiful 1978 Tayana 37, one of the most respected bluewater cruising sailboats ever built. Designed by renowned naval architect Robert Perry, the Tayana 37 has earned an outstanding reputation for its seaworthy hull, robust construction, timeless lines, and proven offshore capability.
In 2020, the original teak decks were professionally removed to reduce long-term maintenance. The decks were refinished using West System epoxy and Awlgrip coatings, creating a durable, watertight, and low-maintenance deck surface while preserving the vessel's classic appearance.
Featuring a versatile cutter rig, a warm teak interior, a comprehensive offshore equipment package, and numerous thoughtful upgrades, HONU offers the ideal balance of traditional craftsmanship and dependable passagemaking performance. Whether your plans include coastal cruising, extended offshore passages, or a circumnavigation, this Tayana 37 is well-equipped and ready for her next adventure.
HONU is currently stored at Cabrales Boatyard in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico—a cruiser-friendly facility renowned throughout the Sea of Cortez. Located outside the primary hurricane belt, the boatyard offers a safe and convenient base for owners. It is easily accessible just one hour south of the Arizona border and approximately 3½ hours from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport via shuttle service.

Owner's Comments
HONU was selected for her reputation as a comfortable, capable, and affordable blue-water cruiser, along with the extensive upgrades completed by previous owners. We prepared her for an around-the-world voyage and equipped her accordingly.
Although our plans changed, HONU remains a well-equipped cruising vessel with the systems and gear needed for extended offshore adventures. She has been stored at Cabrales Boatyard in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, since July 2021.
With some recommissioning and attention to items identified in the survey, HONU offers an excellent opportunity for her next owner to continue the adventures she was built for and take her anywhere in the world.
