Introducing SALT, a 1998 Searunner 40 trimaran, one of the most respected home-built offshore multihull designs ever produced. Designed by Jim Brown and John Marples, the Searunner series has earned a loyal following for its seaworthiness, efficient performance, generous deck space, and comfortable accommodations for extended cruising.
Originally launched in Napa, California in 1998, SALT was built using marine plywood, West System epoxy, and Awlgrip coatings, combining proven wood-epoxy construction with durable finishes. The current owner purchased the boat directly from the original builder in 2020 and has since completed several practical upgrades while cruising extensively along the Mexican coast.
Powered by a 20 HP Volvo Penta MD2020 diesel with approximately 3,000 hours, the vessel displaces approximately 10,000 pounds and features a 3.5-foot draft, increasing to 6.5 feet with the centerboard lowered, providing an excellent balance between shallow-water access and offshore sailing performance.
Below deck, SALT comfortably sleeps five with a forward double berth, forward single berth, and aft double berth. The center cockpit offers excellent visibility and protection, while generous headroom and abundant storage make the boat well suited for extended cruising or living aboard.
