1979 Valiant 40 — Classic Bob Perry Blue-Water Cruiser

Refit Summary (2021–2024)

2021 — Southern California Refit

Major upgrades completed prior to sailing south:

  • Raymarine electronics installed (see navigation section below)

  • New chainplates

  • New standing rigging

  • Mast completely rewired with new lights

  • New 45 lb Mantus anchor with 300 ft of chain

  • New Found Metals portlights and handrails

  • Toe rails replaced in white oak

  • Deck re-cored where needed

Early 2022 — Passage to Sea of Cortez

2022–2023 — Puerto Peñasco Deck Rebuild

  • House deck peeled and fully re-glassed

  • All deck core issues inspected and addressed

  • Topsides sprayed

2023–2024 — Hull Rebuild & Systems

  • Full hull peel

  • Keel inspection

  • Three layers of 1708 biaxial fiberglass applied with Raka epoxy

  • Deck coated with KiwiGrip

  • Hull faired and barrier-coated

  • Injectors and injector pump professionally rebuilt

  • Cabin sole refinished

Remaining Work to Complete (Per Seller)

  • Re-install escutcheon for port-side lifelines

  • Laminate and reinstall dorade boxes (3)

  • Re-install deck tracks on house deck (2)

  • Re-install New Found Metals handrails

  • Re-install mainsail cover and lazy jacks (in storage)

  • Install approximately five new thru-hulls (to be purchased by buyer)

  • Re-install ceiling sections after topsides work (one section requires new laminate)

  • Re-install cabinet fronts in salon and V-berth

  • Replace watermaker membranes (2 × approx. $350 each)

  • Refinish toe-rail caps (new Cetol aboard)
